Istanbul

Where continents collide in color

12 photo experiences available

Istanbul is the only major city in the world that spans two continents, and this geographic collision between Europe and Asia produces a visual and cultural richness that few destinations can match. The Hagia Sophia (built 537 CE under Emperor Justinian I, converted to a mosque in 2020) and the Blue Mosque (completed 1616, with six minarets) face each other across Sultanahmet Square in one of the world's great architectural juxtapositions. The Grand Bazaar, in continuous operation since 1461, is among the oldest and largest covered markets on Earth, offering exceptional street photography. The Bosphorus strait provides waterfront compositions with Asian and European shores visible simultaneously. For interior architecture, the light filtering through Hagia Sophia's dome is considered among the most dramatic in any building worldwide.
