Seville combines Moorish, Gothic, and Renaissance architecture in a visual density that many photographers find rivals any city in Spain. The Real Alcázar (a UNESCO World Heritage Site, with construction spanning from the 10th century Moorish period through Christian renovations) features some of the most intricate tilework and garden design in Europe. The Plaza de España (built for the 1929 Ibero-American Exposition) offers a sweeping semicircular arcade with geometric repetition ideal for pattern-based compositions. Seville's flamenco culture provides dramatic human subjects, while the narrow streets of the Barrio Santa Cruz create atmospheric shadow and light interplay. The city is one of the hottest in Europe, so early morning and evening shooting is strongly recommended from June through September.
